Home Energy Efficiency

Solar House Image Did you know that your home contributes 6 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year? Carbon dioxide is one of the major gases contributing to global climate change. The effects of this rapid change include sea level rise, increased freak weather events and changes to wildlife habitats.

By being energy efficient your home will not only be reducing its contribution to climate change but will save you money too!

There is lots you can do to be more energy efficient, such as improved insulation, installing a condensing boiler or fitting low energy light bulbs.

Find out how much you can save off your fuel bills by filling in a free home energy survey at www.wiltshirewildlife.org, click on "Choices for Change" and energy efficiency. You will receive a tailored report for your home through the post, which outlines where and how you can make savings. For more information and advice call 0800 512012 or visit www.saveenergy.co.uk

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust manages Warm Hearted Homes, the local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre who offer free, independent and impartial Energy Efficiency advice to householders. Warm Hearted Homes is supported by the Energy Saving Trust as part of the national network of Energy Efficiency Advice Centres.

You can also get good advice from the Energy Savings Trust. This site explains about cavity wall and loft insulation, for example, and where you can get grants for home energy improvement.

Then there's the all encompassing Government Grants site, with an easy to read "at a glance table" for eligability: www.government-grants.co.uk

You can calculate your personal carbon footprint at WWF Carbon Footprint Calculator. There are just a few simple questions to answer and it shows you how many planets' worth of resources you are cureently using.

For solar water heating please visit Perfect Heat, who are based near Malmesbury. They fit a Solar Thermal System which produces hot water from the sun, saving money in the process.
